About

GIF IT UP is an annual GIF-making contest that celebrates creative remixing of cultural heritage. It’s run by Europeana in partnership with organisations from around the world, including Japan Search, Art Institute of Chicago, DAG Museums, DPLA, Digital NZ, Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), Centro de Fotografía de Montevideo and Trove

This year, Goethe-Institut joined as a partner and a patron of this year’s special category: Underrepresented Communities, focussing on people and communities that historically haven’t been in the spotlight. Goethe-Institut will also host a series of GIF-making workshops at their locations in London and Amsterdam. Involvement in GIF IT UP is part of Goethe-Institut’s ongoing campaign #Heritage_digitised.

Throughout October, GIF-makers and cultural heritage fans are invited to create new GIFs from open access digital collections. Great prizes are on offer for the best entries, as judged by the public and our jury of creative experts.
